Developing a SaaS system to accelerate the global growth of the wind power industry
LAUTEC DPR is an IT system for daily progress reporting (DPR) used on most offshore wind projects globally. The initial version of the system was launched in 2016, and the system has since become the industry standard for daily progress reporting in offshore wind projects.
Industry standard
The challenge
Supporting the development and execution of wind power projects, LAUTEC identified the need to design and develop a daily progress reporting system that enables full project transparency, helping users to keep track of progress during works with repetitive activities, such as wind power and PV projects.
The main challenge was to develop a highly customizable and intuitive daily progress reporting system.
In an industry as complex as wind power, it was clear from the beginning that every project, thus every use case of the platform we were going to develop, would be different.

The strategy
Having received the scope and specifications from LAUTEC, our development team, together with the product designers set out to redesign the wireframes provided by LAUTEC.
Based on that, we developed a functional product prototype tailored to the entire installation process of wind power projects.
Following a lean approach and an agile methodology, the development of the DPR system was done in short iterations. The team developed a system for project representatives working on large-scale wind projects during the development and installation phase. This system enabled them to track progress and access daily reports for a 24-hour time frame of activities and tasks.
"Using a collaborative and transparent approach, RebelDot ensures that development processes run smoothly and efficiently."
What we did
Product development
We started out with the main feature in mind: Allowing users to set up complex wind power construction projects and add traceable activities to it.
By doing so, project administrators could define the main actions to track within a day, export daily reports to their devices in PDF formats and add summaries or other attachments to the original reports to generate insights that would accelerate the construction projects.
We kicked off the process by dividing the LAUTEC DPR system into sections based on user stories.
An Iterative Design Process
Once the main user pain points were identified, the UI and UX were designed. This approach was maintained throughout the entire development cycle, as numerous user interactions were refined based on feedback received in real-time.
Launch
Achieving product-market fit fast through an MVP
Developing the MVP, our team initially focused on fulfilling the main user’s need of registering data rather than managing projects. This was done in order to validate the use-case first before conforming to a limited budget and a strict time frame.
By quickly obtaining product-market fit, we were able to proceed with a series of significant development enhancements using an iterative method to bring the product to market.
Eventually, the team managed to develop the feature that made LAUTEC DPR stand out, transforming it into a web platform that operates both online and offline.
The outcome
As a technology partner, RebelDot covered the entire development process, from product design to development, quality assurance, user testing, launch, and maintenance
The partnership with LAUTEC`s team began in December 2015, and the DPR system is still maintained and developed by the RebelDot team to this day.
"RebelDot has become our close, strategic partner because of their long-term perspective on relationship building and their capability of consistently creating competent teams with a strong company culture."
